YMCA of the North Shore has stepped up to support the Wonderfund, a newly relaunched charity serving children supported by the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.
The Alliance of Massachusetts YMCAs has announced that its member Y’s are donating 35 scholarships for camp sessions this summer to the nonprofit.
More than 30 YMCAs across the state have donated at least one week of camp to children in response to an appeal for donations from Massachusetts first lady Lauren Baker. The Swampscott resident serves as vice chairwoman of the charity.
The YMCA of the North Shore donated 10 camp scholarships, the most of any Y in the state, according to a spokesman for the Wonderfund. The YMCA of the North Shore includes the Salem YMCA, Cape Ann YMCA in Gloucester, the Greater Beverly YMCA, the Haverhill YMCA, the Ipswich Family YMCA, the Lynch Van Otterloo YMCA in Marblehead, and the Plaistow, New Hampshire, Community YMCA.
“On behalf of everyone at the Wonderfund, our founding partners, our supporters, and most important the children we serve, we are so grateful to the YMCAs across Massachusetts that are giving moments of childhood magic to our most vulnerable children,” Baker said in a prepared statement. “Through the Wonderfund, these YMCAs are making a positive, life-changing difference for kids in every city and town in the Commonwealth.”
